Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Vice Chief of Staff Brig-Gen Hpunggan Zau Nan died of liver cancer in Laiza, the business center and headquarters of KIA and its political-wing Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) on April 6, 2009. He served the military service in KIA for 44 years (1965-2009) until his death.
