About 138 million Kyat (est. US $ 123,214) was donated by a Kachin tycoon Majoi Gintawng Sutdu Yup Zau Hkawng for victims of the killer Cyclone Nargis in Irrawaddy River Delta in Southern Burma through the Burmese ruling junta.

This money was handed over to the office of the Kachin State Peace and Development Council (KSPDC) in Myitkyina Township the capital of Kachin State in Northern Burma on May 7 and 10 by the company staff of the Jadeland Myanmar Co., Ltd., the owner of the company Sutdu Yup Zau Hkawng told KNG today.

"We donated funds for the victims of the cyclone without being requested by the authorities. This donation is aimed at helping suffering family members of the nation," he said.

About additional support, Sutdu Yup Zau Hkawng said, "There are no company employees in Rangoon because we are based in Myitkyina. But, we have discussed, following a visit to the disaster areas, the relief required."

Sutdu Yup Zau Hkawng also suggested that the people in Burma should help cyclone victims cutting out racism and religious segregation.

However, the junta has been pilfering international aid material and distributing food and clothes at a price to survivors in some areas, according to local relief workers in the Irrawaddy River Delta.

Burma's state media has said almost 78,000 people have died and 56,000 others are missing since the May 2-3 cyclone lashed Irrawaddy River Delta but the United Nations (UN) estimates that more than 100,000 people died.

The Burmese ruling junta is still prohibiting local volunteers including Christian organizations from entering the areas affected by Cyclone Nargis.
